Delano, Minnesota, is commemorating its 150th anniversary with a series of events that highlight the town’s rich history and vibrant community spirit. As a resident, I’ve had the privilege of participating in several of these celebrations, and it’s heartening to see our community come together to honor our shared heritage.
Community Mural Paint Project
One of the standout initiatives is the Community Mural Paint Project. Led by local artist LeAnna Wurzer, this project invites residents of all ages to contribute to a large-scale mosaic mural. Participants paint individual 3″x3″ canvases, each featuring a design curated by LeAnna. These pieces will be assembled into a one-of-a-kind mural, set to be unveiled at the Annual Community Art Show in October 2026 and permanently displayed in the Delano Public Library. This initiative not only showcases local talent but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among residents.
Delano Community Expo
The Delano Community Expo is another event that underscores our town’s spirit of collaboration. Scheduled for May 9, 2026, at Riverside Commons, the expo offers residents an opportunity to meet city officials, local businesses, and non-profits. It’s a chance to learn about the various services and products available in our community and to connect with neighbors. The expo embodies the “spirit of community” that Delano is known for.
Delano’s Fourth of July Celebration
Delano is renowned for hosting Minnesota’s oldest and largest Fourth of July celebration. This annual event attracts over 30,000 visitors and features a parade, fireworks, and various festivities. The celebration is a testament to our town’s dedication to tradition and community engagement.
As we celebrate this milestone, it’s evident that Delano’s strength lies in its people. The collective efforts to honor our history and build a vibrant future are truly inspiring. Here’s to many more years of community, collaboration, and celebration in Delano.
